About Cursor
Cursor is still the AI-native VS Code fork for developers who want agents, chat, and multi-file edits inside the editor — and it is no longer an independent company. SpaceX completed the Anysphere acquisition in August 2026 and placed Cursor inside SpaceXAI alongside Grok. cursor.com is live. Existing plans still sell. The product people adopted is the one they open tomorrow.
What the deal changes is the buy. Model mix, Grok integration, and third-party contracts now sit with SpaceX. OpenAI has already discussed winding down its Cursor relationship. Teams that standardized on Claude or GPT inside Cursor should treat that access as a SpaceXAI decision, not a forever menu. Procurement, security review, and "do we want this vendor" now matter as much as Tab quality.
The workflow case is unchanged. Cursor still wins when the job is repo-aware implementation, not lighter autocomplete. GitHub Copilot is still the lower-friction path for teams that want to stay in VS Code or JetBrains, or that do not want a SpaceX-owned editor. Cursor remains the high-leverage pick when the team will actually live in an AI-first IDE and can accept the new ownership.
